Is Your Child Stressed? Teach
Him How to Relax
We all get stressed out from stuff. However, many
times when kids get frazzled, they dont know how to deal with it. They may scapegoat their stress on others or act out negatively. Stress can have an adverse
effect on
youngsters. It can make concentrating difficult or cause anxiety and irritability.
Prolonged periods can even cause personality and behavior changes. Stress in children is
also caused when they have too little to do.
Kids should always have a wide
selection of activities available to them. You as a parent can teach your child strategies
on how to deal with stress. Here are some pointers. |

1) Breathing
Teach your child that when they feel stressed to take a few moments to sit and
breathe slowly. This will help bring things to the center. Instead of concentrating on the
thing thats causing tension your child will focus on the breathing.
2) Physical
Exercise Physical activity is a great stress reliever. It releases natural
endorphins and relieves tension. If you child is angry and needs to blow off some steam
have them ride their bike for an hour or so. A brisk walk is also
helpful
3) Counting
Coach your child on how to count when they feel very stressed. Counting from 1
to 75, slowly, is adequate. Many times after kids have finished counting they forgot what
they were angry about.
4) Napping
Taking a rest is a pleasant and healthy way to deal with stress. A simple 1 to 2
hour nap can work wonders for relieving periods of anxiety.
